Will someone meet me at Cusco airport?
Yes. Send us your flight details at least 14 days before your trek. Our representative will wait outside the arrivals terminal with a Machulas Journey sign and take you to your hotel.
What pace can I expect?
Our itineraries include full, active days. Pace and difficulty vary by trip — every tour page shows its difficulty level. If you are unsure, contact us and we will recommend the right trip for you.
Where can I store my luggage during a trek?
At your hotel or at our office in Cusco, free of charge. Do not leave in your main suitcase anything you need on the trail.
How do I book?
Choose your tour, date and number of travelers, and pay the deposit or full amount online. We need each traveler’s full name exactly as in the passport, passport number, date of birth, nationality and gender to buy permits, Machu Picchu tickets and train tickets.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Credit and debit cards through Izipay, PayPal and bank transfer on request. The balance can be paid online or in Cusco in cash or by card. See our Payment and Refund Policy for deposits.
Is there a student or child discount?
Students with a valid ISIC card and minors receive discounts on entrance fees. Children under 2 travel free. Send us a copy of the passport (and ISIC card) when booking.
Can I change my departure date?
Not for the Inca Trail once permits are issued. For alternative treks a change may be possible for a fee, subject to availability.
Do I need my original passport?
Yes. Bring the same passport you used to book. It is checked on the Inca Trail, at Machu Picchu and on the train. If you renew your passport, tell us — a change fee may apply, or bring both passports.
What is the weather like?
Unpredictable, with many microclimates. Bring warm layers for mornings and evenings and rain gear in your daypack in every season. The dry season runs from April to October.
How can I avoid altitude sickness?
Arrive in Cusco (3,400 m) at least two days before your trek, hydrate well, avoid alcohol and heavy meals at first, and walk slowly.
Can I climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain?
Yes, with an extra ticket that must be booked well in advance. Tell us when you book so we can organize your visit.
Do you pick us up at our hotel?
Yes, our service is hotel to hotel in Cusco, and we can also pick you up in the Sacred Valley (Urubamba, Ollantaytambo).
Should I tip the team?
Tipping is voluntary. If you are happy with the service, a tip is greatly appreciated by guides, cooks and porters.
Which currency is used in Peru?
The Peruvian sol. US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas and there are many ATMs in Cusco.
