National Geographic listed Salkantay among the best treks in the world, and it remains quieter and more flexible than the Inca Trail because it does not require government permits.
Difficulty and altitude
It is a challenging trek. The hardest section is the climb to Salkantay Pass (4,630 m / 15,190 ft) on the second day. We recommend at least two days of acclimatization in Cusco and good hiking boots. Pack animals carry the camping equipment; you only carry a daypack.
